NDYC Blasts Zamfara Governor for Distracting From Defense Ministry’s Anti-Banditry Efforts

Share

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has released a formal statement condemning the recent accusations made by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal against the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle.

Governor Lawal has alleged that his predecessor, Matawalle, is involved in banditry activities. The NDYC rejected these allegations, labeling them as “unfounded” and “politically motivated,” and suggesting that they are intended to undermine ongoing security efforts in Zamfara State.

The youth organization commended the Defense Ministry’s recent successes in combating banditry, notably the elimination of notorious bandit leaders such as Halilu Sububu. In contrast, the NDYC questioned the timing and intent behind Governor Lawal’s accusations, expressing concerns that they could hinder progress in securing the region.

The group called on the federal government to consider declaring a state of emergency in Zamfara, arguing that such a measure would allow security agencies to operate free from political interference. They further urged Governor Lawal to retract his statements and actively support the current security initiatives.

The NDYC emphasized the importance of unity in addressing security challenges, stating that national security should not be used for political gain. They also raised concerns about Governor Lawal’s priorities, questioning his focus on accusations rather than collaboration with security forces.
