The Niger Delta Youth Congress has issued a formal statement denouncing recent protests at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters in Abuja. In their press release, the NDYC characterized the demonstration against Minister Bello Matawalle as a calculated political maneuver rather than a genuine anti-corruption effort.
According to the organization, the protesting group—identified as the All Progressives Congress Young Leaders Alliance—lacks credibility and proper standing within the party structure. The NDYC questioned how a Kaduna-based organization could legitimately represent Zamfara youth interests while protesting against the former governor of that state without substantial evidence.
The statement presented concerns about the authenticity of the protesters, suggesting they were “political mercenaries” rather than genuine APC members. The youth congress explicitly criticized Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, implying his involvement in orchestrating the demonstrations instead of addressing regional challenges.
The NDYC called for the official APC leadership to distance itself from what they termed a “facade” and advocated for responsible youth engagement in politics. Their statement concluded with an appeal for Nigerians to remain vigilant against political manipulation and emphasized the importance of focusing on governance rather than distractions that undermine public service integrity.
