The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a strong statement praising Nigerian security agencies for the recent arrest of Bashir Hadeja, an individual allegedly linked to treason, gun-running, and other transnational crimes. The youth group hailed the arrest as a significant victory for national security and called for a thorough investigation into Hadeja’s reported criminal network.
NDYC National Coordinator Israel Uwejeyan commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their “unyielding commitment to upholding the law and protecting our citizens.” He emphasized the importance of dismantling sophisticated networks of crime and terrorism that threaten regional stability.
According to the NDYC, Hadeja’s confessions have revealed a disturbing web of criminal activities, including arms trafficking, gold smuggling, and alleged financing of protests. The youth group expressed particular concern over claims that Hadeja orchestrated and funded demonstrations, including the #EndBadGovernance protests.
“These individuals have exploited the frustrations of the people, turning legitimate dissent into chaos and disorder,” Uwejeyan stated, highlighting the manipulation of vulnerable youths in recent unrest across northern Nigeria.
The NDYC called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action, urging that Hadeja not be released “under any circumstances until a comprehensive investigation is conducted and justice is fully served.” The group also praised the efforts of key security officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar.
Uwejeyan stressed the need for vigilance and unity among citizens, lawmakers, and civil society against forces that “seek to undermine our sovereignty.” He called for increased transparency and accountability in governance structures to combat these threats effectively.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the presidency or the accused regarding these allegations and demands.
